It can be a sensitive subject to talk about but it is something that so many of us go through and it is important that we look after all aspects of ourselves.

There have only been a few occasions where I have had thrush.  When I first went on The Pill to  “balance my hormones”.  {Side note, The Pill does not balance hormones and you can read more about that here}.  I would get bouts of thrush seemingly out of the blue for no reason.

Even in my early 20’s I would head to the health food store rather than the doctors to seek out natural treatment options for it.  But of course I also tried the over the counter products too.

In the years following I discovered that The Pill disturbs your beneficial bacteria leaving you more prone to thrush.

Plus The Pill disrupts your bodies normal oestrogen and progesterone levels which can provide a breeding ground for an overgrowth of candida.

What is thrush?

Thrush is a common yeast infection also known as candida which affects both women and men.  Common symptoms for thrush include:

  • Itching and irritation around the vagina
  • Soreness and stinging which can be worse for urination
  • White vaginal discharge

Some may have no symptoms at all whilst others may have one or more of the symptoms listed above.

Triggers for thrush include:

  • Antibiotic use
  • Fluctuations in hormones around menstruation or in pregnancy
  • Low immunity
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Sensitivity to pads and tampons

What self help measures can you try?

Some have found the following useful in sorting out an acute attack of thrush:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Female targeted probiotics
  • Salt water baths
  • Bicarbonate of soda
  • Probiotic yoghurt

How Homeopathy can help

Sometimes we just need to get to the underlying cause of an issue to really tackle it.  Masking symptoms can work in the short run but leave us prone to more attacks of thrush in the future.

If you feel you have tried the self help tips or doctor prescribed methods but are still suffering then Homeopathy is a great help in breaking the thrush cycle and treating the root cause of the issue.

I would prescribe individualised remedies based on your unique symptoms and medical history.  Homeopathy takes into account all aspects of you in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual spheres.

If there is a history of a lot of antibiotic use then we can consider an antibiotic detox or remedies to support the gut and bowels.  Or if you feel you have issues from being on The Pill (not just being prone to thrush) then a pill detox is also a possibility.

If you are in a lot of pain or your symptoms are severe you should alway consult a doctor first to rule out any other underlying health issues.

Feel free to get in touch if you would like natural and holistic help to sort out your thrush or to book in a discovery call to find out more.
